The Night Olivia Fell by Christina McDonald
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Abi is woken up by a phone call in the night to the horrible news that her teenage daughter Olivia is in the hospital after a fall. Abi rushes to the hospital not knowing what she is going to encounter when she gets there. Her worst fears are realized when she is told her daughter is brain dead and has no chance of survival. She is also told that the doctors can’t remove her from life support because she is pregnant. Abi is a single parent and has lived for her daughter so she is stunned to learn that the daughter she thought she knew so well has been living a part of her life completely unknown to her. The story is told by both Abi and Olivia so we learn what has been happening in Olivia’s life prior to the accident. Abi searches for the details surrounding Olivia’s accident and learns about what was happening in her life in the last few months. This book broke my heart on a few levels. One was the fact that we always think we have more time. More time to clarify things we’ve said or make amends with people but we never know what the future holds. This was such a compelling story with this mother and daughter and it completely held my interest from start to finish.
