The Last Resort by Marissa Stapley
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Thank you to Simon and Schuster Canada and Harlequin for a free review copy of this book. The setting of this book is initially quite beautiful. It is set in a stunning private resort on the Mayan Riviera. The book starts with couples arriving at the Harmony Resort to attend a couples retreat. The retreat is run by a well know celebrity couple. Miles and Grace are psychologists and on the outside they have a perfect marriage. This facade falls apart as we learn more about them and the techniques they use in counselling their clients. The suspense ramps up as the week progresses with Mile’s behaviour becoming more erratic. Some of the clients worship him but others are starting to question his motivations. Things become even more intense as a hurricane descends trapping them at the resort. Central to the story are two couples in particular who are examining who they are and whether or not their marriage will survive. This is a fast paced thriller that kept me enthralled from beginning to end. I loved the writing. The book is so atmospheric you feel you are living the story along with the characters.
