When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Thank you to Kathleen Carter Communications, Park Row Books, and Harper Collins for a free copy of this book for review. I was excited to read this as I read The Good Girl by this author and I loved it. This book is told by alternating characters, Jessie and her mom Eden, in the present and 20 years prior. I really enjoyed this suspenseful story. I did find it a little slow around the 70% mark but it still kept me engaged and wanting to find out how the story would end. Eden is dying of cancer and Jessie will then become an orphan and has to find her true identity and learn how to carry on without her mom. I don’t want to say too much about the plot and give anything away. There is a twist at the end which I enjoyed. I have seen other reviews where they were unhappy with the ending but it worked for me and tied the story up nicely. The writing was great!
