Bachelor Nation: Inside the World of America's Favorite Guilty Pleasure by Amy Kaufman
First of all I have to say I’m not a regular watcher of The Bachelor/Bachelorette series but I was intrigued enough to read this book. The author has some inside knowledge of the show through her reporting about the series and having been invited to some Bachelor events. She also did interviews with former contestants and employees of the show for her book. Through the years we have heard the gossip about editing, manipulation, excessive drinking etc during the production of the show. The author is here to say there is all that and a lot more going on behind the scenes. It was a major news story last year about the Bachelor in Paradise show being shut down for a time during allegations of improper events being allowed during filming of the show. This franchise is also part of “Bachelor Nation”. All of these shows are produced by the same people. There was nothing earth shattering to learn from this book. Most of it we have heard before. The author details just how over bearing, manipulative, and aggressive the producers can be. Some of the contestants revealed how editing has come back to haunt them as they move forward with their lives. Many contestants go on this franchise more than once, still holding on to their 15 minutes of fame. Overall nothing really new here but diehard fans of these shows will enjoy this book.
